Gym entrance to Walter
Murray
The Saskatoon Public Board of Education has informed the SMBA that the
back entrance to Walter Murray Collegiate will not be open for us. We
will only have access to the school by the front entrance.
Entrance to Mount Royal
MRCI hallway between the two gyms will tentatively be under construction
and you must follow the following procedures to enter the gyms
At MRCI for the rentals beginning Monday February 8, all rentals that
are using the Boy’s Gym must enter and exit through the Southeast
crash door entrance, which gives direct access to the gym.
Signage will be posted.
The rentals for the Girl’s gym must enter and exit from the Main
entrance on Rusholme Road.
Under no circumstances are patrons allowed to move between the gyms through
the hallway or fitness room. They must use the entrances stated above
and will need to walk outside to access from one gym to another. You cannot
go from one gym to the other

Please read the playoff rules for your division. If you have a problem in
a game please talk to the game referees or the gym supervisor. There will

2. Boys Team Clinic February 5, 2010
---------------------------------------------
The clinic is for coaches and their teams. Individual players may be accommodated
if there is room after teams register.
Coaches are to register their team with the SMBA
office., at least a week in advance, so that the SMBA can plan the agenda
for the clinic. (Register as soon as possible for this boy’s clinic)
Please indicate the division and the number of players that will be coming.
Coaches will need to bring a basketball for each player
There will be a maximum of 35 players allowed at each clinic.
A waiting list will be established once this number has been reached.
The boy’s team clinic will be February 5th: Mount Royal Collegiate,
Girls Gym

The Century Tournament is now an open tournament for under for girls and boys
teams in the following age groups: 11,13,15,17,and 19 (Age requirements are
as of December 31, 2009). You can enter your winter team or form your own
eligible team. Teams interested can check out the information on the SMBA
Web Site. The registration deadline is March 7,
2010.

Playoffs will take place on February 27 (excluding Midget teams) and 28 (for
Juvenile and Midget teams)
March 6, 7 and the finals on March 13.
Teams must play their games on the day and time indicated on the draws. No

the playoffs. Coaches with more than one team will have to find assistants
to coach other teams if there are time conflicts. No team will be allowed
to pick up players from any other team. Please read over the rules
for playing time in your division.

The Huskies would like teams to play at half time of the following games:
January 8th vs. Trinity Western University, January 9th vs. Simon Fraser University,
January 31st vs University of Manitoba, and February 6th vs. University of
Lethbridge University
This would be teams for half time of the Women’s and Me’s games
Teams would only need to bring the following:
- They must bring a ball
- They must bring a parent or fan to ref the "fun" game.
An autograph session after the men's and Women's Basketball games. Each SMBA
team can "go into" the NEW dressing rooms and get autographs and

Rob Lovelace will be holding free SMBA player clinics, for boys, on Friday
nights from 6 PM until 9 PM. The first clinic on Friday, October 30, will
be held at Mount Royal Collegiate- Girls Gym (use the back entrance)
Mini boys will go from 6 PM until 7:30 PM and Bantam boys will go from 7:30
PM until 9 PM.
Rob Lovelace, will be going over fundamental skills and advancing and the
players progress. This is a free program offered by the SMBA and if it is
not used then we will lose it.
Teams and individual players can register
for the clinics with the SMBA.

Basketball Saskatchewan Inc. is looking to establish a pilot program for a
Regional Training Center (RTC) during the 2009-10 year. This program would
be modeled after the Center for Performance (CP) program on a smaller scale,
and would target athletes younger than the CP age group (athletes born in
1995,1996, 1997 & 1998). The RTC will look at developing skills and focus
on the following:
- moving without the ball / penetration principle- shooting- ballhandling
/ passing / decision making
- individual on-ball defense

This would be teams for half time of the Women’s and Me’s games
Teams would only need to bring the following :
- They must bring a ball
- They must bring a parent or fan to ref the "fun" game.
An autograph session after the men's and Women's Basketball games. Each SMBA
team can "go into" the NEW dressing rooms and get autographs and
meet the players!

Basketball Saskatchewan Inc. is looking to establish a pilot program for a
Regional Training Center (RTC) during the 2009-10 year. This program would
be modeled after the Center for Performance (CP) program on a smaller scale,
and would target athletes younger than the CP age group (athletes born in
1996, 1997 & 1998). The RTC will look at developing skills and focus on
the following:
- Moving without the ball / penetration principles- shooting- ball-handling
/ passing / decision making
- Individual on-ball defense
The Province will be divided into two zones, North and South. The top female
and male athletes ages 11 -13 will be chosen in each of these zones from the
Open Tryout dates listed below. RTC training sessions will be held in Saskatoon
(North) and Regina (South). BSI will conduct approximately 30 hours of training
including Sport Science sessions.

1. Teams for Huskie Home Games

The Huskies would like teams to play at half time of the following games:
January 8th vs. Trinity Western University, January 9th vs. Simon Fraser University,
January 31st vs University of Manitoba, and February 6th vs. University of
Lethbridge University
This would be teams for half time of the Women’s and Me’s games
Teams would only need to bring the following :
- They must bring a ball
- They must bring a parent or fan to ref the "fun" game.
An autograph session after the men's and Women's Basketball games. Each SMBA
team can "go into" the NEW dressing rooms and get autographs and
meet the players!

3. SMBA Coaching Clinic

There will be a coaching clinic on Sunday, October 4, 2009 for all coaches
that have not taken a NCCP or SMBA basketball-coaching clinic. The clinic
will be held at ABCI main gym from 9 until 12 and from 1 until 4. This clinic
is necessary for new coach in the SMBA. Each coach will receive a resource
book and a coaching CD with a retail value of $110. (This clinic is partially
funded by the City Of Saskatoon)

In bantam and midget play, the last two minutes of the game will be stop time.

Each year the Saskatoon Sports Council runs its annual Sports Equipment Drive,
this year the 18th Annual drive will be held Sept 15 – Oct 15th, 2009.
If you are wishing to donate items donation barrels will be placed at all
Saskatoon Civic Leisure Centres, Civic Hockey Arena’s and Olympian Sports
and Al Anderson’s Source for Sports.
Prior to the sports seasons starting we would like to hand out the current
equipment that we have on hand that has been donated. If you would like to
receive some of this equipment please call Heather at 975-0871 to arrange
a time to pick up the equipment. Types of equipment we have are hockey equipment,
soccer shoes, indoor and outdoor, golf clubs, basketballs
We also have some brand new hockey equipment that the Sports Council is selling
at a reduced rate to the public. Some of these items include top of the line
hockey sticks (CCM, Easton JR Z-Carb etc), Hockey Blades and Shafts, Gloves,
Shin Pads, Shoulder Pads, Skate Guards, etc. Please contact the Sports Council
office if you would like to view or purchase some of this equipment –
975-0871. All money raised will go towards increasing sports programs currently
offered by the Sports Council for at risk youth.

6. Gym Supervisors
---------------------------------------------
The SMBA is seeking individuals to work as Gym Supervisors who help coordinate
the different game sites for the league throughout the season. Responsibilities
will include setting up the gym for basketball and closing down the gym on
game days, appraising referees, transporting the Game Site Equipment to and
from the gym, assisting parents to scorekeep the games, ensuring the day runs
on schedule and acting as a source for information at the games on behalf
of the SMBA. Gym Supervisors will also be asked to referee games.
Games are played throughout Saskatoon all day Saturdays and some Sunday mornings.
Gym Supervisors are paid a starting honorarium of $12.00 per hour worked.
Individuals who are interested in becoming a Gym Supervisor for the SMBA must
have access to a vehicle on weekends to transport both themselves and the
leagues equipment to and from the site. Gym Supervisors must also be a minimum
of 18 years of age to be eligible. First consideration will be given to people
who will commit to the entire season, can commit to Saturday and Sunday supervision
and those with knowledge of basketball. The league begins the middle of October
and runs through to mid March. If you are interested in becoming a Gym Supervisor,
